The Opportunity
We are hiring a Senior Database Administrator to support and optimise the SQL Server environments that power our global client base. Our customers operate both self-hosted and SaaS deployments, each with different performance profiles, scale requirements, and operational constraints. You will support the health, performance, and consistency of our databases across all these environments, ensuring reliability, speed, and predictable behaviour at scale.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role supporting complex financial workloads, large datasets, and auto-generated code that requires careful optimisation, monitoring, and proactive maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimise SQL Server instances across SaaS and client-hosted environments.
- Analyse and improve performance of auto-generated queries and ORM-driven SQL.
- Lead indexing, statistics, and query-tuning strategies for high-volume workloads.
- Maintain database hygiene: fragmentation, archiving, growth plans, and maintenance jobs.
- Diagnose client issues, query analysis, and recommend configuration improvements.
- Implement and refine DB monitoring, alerting, and performance baselines.
- Review schema changes and advise Engineering on efficient data access patterns.
- Produce clear guidance for client DB configuration, scaling, and operational practices.
- Support incident response and lead RCAs for database-related issues.
About You – Ideal Profile
- 7+ years as a SQL Server DBA supporting large-scale or enterprise systems.
- Deep expertise in T-SQL, execution plans, indexing, and SQL Server internals.
- Experience with Azure SQL, Managed Instance, VM-hosted, and client-managed installs.
- Strong capability in tuning auto-generated SQL and identifying structural bottlenecks.
- Comfortable working directly with clients to diagnose issues and promote best-practice.
- Experienced with monitoring and observability tools (Azure Monitor, etc.).
- Strong grounding in security, backups, HA/DR, and resilience for mission-critical systems.
- Proactive, analytical, calm under pressure, and highly attentive to detail.
